ANSWER: 19 Dec 2005 Dear Jordan, I have conducted a brief web search of this topic area to answer your question, and I have found no mention of amalgam removal causing high levels of lead in the body. Many articles have mentioned the great healing effects and the reduction of mercury levels in the body following amalgam removal, so it would seem logical to infer that a reduction (not an increase) in lead levels would occur following the removal of amalgam, if the amalgam contained lead. However, if lead levels were of particular concern to the patient, it may be advisable to monitor blood lead levels by conducting blood tests of lead levels. It may also be advisable to check other potential sources of lead exposure.
