Tooth lead analysis The American Association for Clinical Chemistry publication: Directory of Rare Analyses, indicates that National Medical Services (NMS), performs lead testing in Hair, Nails and other specimens for post-mortem or forensic cases. NMS also offers tooth lead testing as a "Special Request" test. They do not however work with private individuals. A person would need to either go through a Dr., Lawyer or another lab in order for NMS to do the testing. NATA accredited to test lead in food residues, agricultural products, blood, serum, urine, water, childrens toys and from buildings. Samples can be delivered to the lab between 9-4:30 weekdays or posted to PO Box 162 Lidcombe 2141, Less than 10 samples will cost $40 each and if total is less than $100, a cheque made out to "Division of Analytical Laboratories" must accompany the samples. Larger amounts will be billed. As of June 2005, Lidcombe lab is now offering tooth lead testing to the public. The cost is $40 per tooth, aim is one week turnaround, there is no interpretive report, no identification of the tooth by a dentist and no guarantee that the lead is not on the outside of the tooth due to contamination in storage or transit. The Lidcombe lab was used for tooth lead assays in the PhD thesis on lead in children's teeth in Broken Hill by Monish Arora.
