QUESTION:
The effect of Tetraethyl Lead, 10 May 2006, Kentucky
USA I was wondering if there is any evidence to suggest that tetraethyl lead causes any abnormalities in color vision as a result of interaction with the visual cortex? If the answer is yes, I was wondering if you knew if it would be a loss of blue-yellow like over exposure to toluene or some other color anomaly? |

ANSWER: 18 Jul 2006 Dear John, I am sorry for the very late reply. I did a search for your question on tetraethyl lead and I did not find a specific correlation between tetraethyl lead and the effect on visual cortex. Below are what I found (the quotes in the brackets are the sentences that link tetraethyl lead with vision): www.state.nj.us/health/eoh/rtkweb/1817.pdf (Tetraethyl lead can irritate eye with possible loss of vision) www.ilo.org/public/english/protection/safework/cis/products/icsc/dtasht/_icsc00/icsc0008.pdf (Tetraethyl lead can cause blurred vision in acute exposure) (Material safety data sheet for fuel containing tetraethyl lead) www.chevrontexacoaviation.com/chevrontexacoaviation/tgam_prod/documents/ avi_gas.doc+tetraethyl+lead+vision&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5 (tetraethyl lead can cause blurred vision and impaired vision) www.inchem.org/documents/icsc/icsc/eics0008.htm (Tetraethyl lead can cause blurred vision in acute exposure) I will also send an email to the world's only manufacturer of tetraethyl lead and inquire about it. Should they send any reply, I'll forward it to you. Regards, Erik Wibowo |
