Enviro Check was set up in Oct '97 to perform lead assessments including written reports. In September 2000, Enviro Check became the first commercial laboratory to gain NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accreditation to test lead in [dry] paint in Australia. The lab was also NATA accredited to test heavy metals (cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel and manganese) in soil until it closed down in mid 2002. Enviro Check is currently using Sydney Analytical Laboratories for analysis work.

CSIRO Geological Services can assess ceiling dust or vacuum cleaner dust, either sampled by CSIRO or the client, for lead, arsenic, cadmium, copper, chromium, mercury, and zinc. Other assessments that can be done are size analysis of particles, basic optical and/or scanning electron microscopy for lead bearing particles, and lead testing of paint particles. Results approximately four weeks from receipt of sample. Samples of dust should be collected with a clean plastic spoon, scrape 3-4 teaspoons into a "new" plastic bag. Do not collect any roof insulation in the sample.
