(Historical Enquiry 20071023)
QUESTION: I want to see a Green Machine in operation & to know how much
they cost & what volume of bullets they can pick up. - 23 Oct 2007 Minnesota,
USA
ANSWER (Updated 25 Feb 2026)
Please note that The LEAD Group is a charity running an independent information service
and is not affiliated with any equipment manufacturer or contractor.
The “Green Machine” referenced
in earlier publications (photo at
left) was an early-generation
surface lead recovery unit that
operated in Australia during the
early 2010s. That equipment was
decommissioned in 2014.
Lead recovery operations in
Australia are currently undertaken
by specialist contractors using
purpose-built recovery systems.
Lead Pro Aus Pty Ltd operates custom-manufactured
recovery machines known as Lead Miner units,
which were designed and built in Wisconsin, USA
and imported into Australia in
2014 (photo at right).
These machines are engineered to:
• Recover high percentages of
surface lead shot
• Minimise operator exposure
• Reduce manual handling
• Prepare recovered lead for
licensed recycling
Recovered material is recycled
through approved facilities.
