QUESTION:
Support for an epileptic who has been exposed to lead in the past, along with her
family, 22 Nov 2006, Northern Territory Australia I am working with a client who has been exposed to lead in the past, along with her family, and also has epilepsy. She is living in an isolated area of Australia and not able to see a specialist due to limited resources. I was looking for some sort of support for her as I feel she needs to communicate with others who have been in a similar situation, or have specialist experience with lead exposure. Is there some type of Freecall phone number she can ring to speak to someone? I'm not sure about internet access. Thankyou, Jane |

ANSWER: 22 Nov 2006 Dear Jane, Yes, we have a Freecall number for Australia, it is 1800 626 086, it operates Monday to Friday from 9am till 5pm. If she does have internet access we can also invite her to join one of the egroups that we run for people with lead poisoning where she can talk to experts and other sufferers whenever she needs to. See www.lead.org.au/egroups.html Also, even if she cannot go to a specialist, her GP will be able to take a blood lead test for her (covered by Medicare) and that result would help a lot as to knowing how much of a problem lead is for her. Yours Sincerely Alex Jewson |
