QUESTION: Lead in toys and recalls due to lead content, 01 Aug 2006, Maryland USA

I understand from my daughter in-law some major brands are not safe from Lead. Please tell me if the following are safe Sassy, Hasbro, Tomy, kids Too, and a toy with no manufacturer on it but it has sesame street characters. I would think the latter is a registered trademark and only certain companies can produce them.
Thank you ahead of time.

Dear Madam,

Please find attached "CPSC ITEMS RECALLED DUE TO LEAD CONTENT" which I am told was downloaded from www.cpsc.gov at the beginning of April 2006 although I have been unable to update it so have asked the supplier of this library item how to update it.

I will send you the updated list if I receive one.

See: www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/Recalls/default.htm for lists.

I have found on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website, a place where you can search for specific company names - please go to http://www.cpsc.gov/ and  search for Sassy, Hasbro, Tomy, and Kids Too products or Sesame Street then click on each of the 8 Sesame Street items in turn to find out if any of them was recalled for lead content.

Given how complicated it is to find out if a toy is lead-safe on the CPSC site, you may also want to email them at info@cpsc.gov to request that they web-publish a list of items recalled due to lead content.

Yours Sincerely
Elizabeth O'Brien
