ANSWER: 22 Nov 2005 Dear Andy, if you want to do a course on industrial lead paint management (you would need experience in the field as a pre-course requirement), then these are organised by PCCP (Painting Contractors Certification Program), C/o SSL (Scientific Services Laboratory) ph 92484902, www.apas.gov.au/pccp; www.measurement.gov.au but if you want to do a course on residential or commercial lead paint management then normally you would ask the Master Painters Australia state branch to organise one. Good luck!! The Victoria Branch have apparently refused every other request to organise such a course. IF you could organise enough participants, you can ask CTI to run a course in Victoria. CTI has run courses all over Australia for painters on Lead Paint Management over several years at times in conjunction with Macquarie University Graduate School of the Environment. They also run a course called "Competent Person for Cavity Dust Removal". You can contact CTI on ph 0297363911 or fred@cticonsultants.com.au Lastly, knowing how badly the Victorian Branch of MPA has fulfilled painters training needs in Victoria, the Queensland Branch of MPA has set up a course that can be done by painters by correspondence from anywhere in Australia. See info about lead paint correspondence training course at http://qld.mpa.org.au/index.php/content/85/ - Graduates of this course receive a statement of attainment as having completed the Nationally Accredited module BCGPD3011B Treat Lead Paint Hazards and have their names entered onto the register of Lead Certified Painting Contractors. I hope this helps. Please let us know if you graduate from any lead paint management course (especially if you are a residential painting contractor) so we can make you the second Victorian residential painter on our list of lead-trained painters. Regards Yours Sincerely Elizabeth O'Brien |
