ANSWER: 11 Sep 2005 Dear Sandra, the cost and time-frame will very much depend on what form of lead and asbestos you want removed. Even though it is not a legal requirement for areas less than 200 sq m, it is recommended that asbestos fibro sheeting or asbestos concrete roofing only be removed by a licensed asbestos contractor. These contractors could also remove asbestos lagging on pipes/water heaters etc. If the asbestos is in the form of friable asbestos left behind by some careless worker, and/or if you want to remove leaded ceiling dust from your ceiling void or leaded wall cavity dust if you are doing wall demolition, then we recommend you hire a member of the Australian Dust Removalists Association - see www.adra.com.au/camcos.html If the lead is in the form of lead pipe, flashing or lead sheet, lead washers from a corrugated iron roof etc, then you should look up Scrap Metal Merchants listed in the Yellow Pages and organise for someone to come and take it away for recycling. If it is lead paint that you want removed, we recommend you utilise only the services of a lead-trained paint contractor - see www.lead.org.au/clp/sydpaint.html or phone CTI Consultants on 97363911 for their latest list of graduates from their lead paint management course. I hope that covers all the possibilities. Please email again if not. Regards Yours Sincerely Elizabeth O'Brien |
