QUESTION: Removing lead toxicity determined by Harmonology Heavy Metals Test Kit, 28 Aug 2005, New South Wales Australia

I have recently had my two boys aged 3 & 4 tested for heavy metals toxicity using a Heavy Metals Test kit, as supplied by www.harmonology.com.au. The test indicated lead toxicity and now I am seeking to find out what my best course of action is to treat/remove these toxins from their young bodies. I appreciate your informed assistance in this matter.
Thank you

Dear Ms Elizabeth O'Brien,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I have organized to have my two children blood tested later this week to get a more accurate diagnosis. I suspect that most of the lead and heavy metals are directly sourced from our water supply, as our home is recently renovated and there is little if any lead around the place. The water pipes are mostly original and I have little doubt that this is the main cause of contamination.
I will keep you posted on further developments.
Thank you very much for the information and the service you provide.

Dear Michael,

when it comes to treatment of lead poisoning, your best course of action is to find a medical practitioner that you trust. Your GP may already fit the bill. If not, and if you are open to alternative treatments then going to a practitioner trained by ACNEM (Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine) makes sense so email them (mail@acnem.org) to ask for your closest ACNEM-trained doctors. Update 2010: Practitioner Listing
The critical thing however is to eradicate the sources of lead which you can only do by knowing the source/s of the lead. One thing you should know is that in NSW lead poisoning (as determined by a blood lead test) at a level above 15 micrograms per decilitre (µg/dL) , is a notifiable disease which will be followed up by the Public Health Unit including a free home lead assessment. Lead assessments get very expensive if you have to pay for them yourself, so ask your GP for a blood lead test for both children. Even if the results are below 15 µg/dL, you will want to determine and eradicate sources in order to bring the blood lead level down (over time) to as close as possible to zero. You should read through our info on lead sources and try to work out what to test. Please see the article "Identifying the source of lead poisoning in each individual case" by one of our Technical Advisory Board members Mike van Alphen.  In: Proceedings of the International Conference on Lead Poisoning Prevention and Treatment, Bangalore, India, 8-10 February 1999. Bangalore, India:The George Foundation, 1999. Available: http://www.leadpoison.net/prevent/full-identify.html, and our factsheet on sources at www.lead.org.au/lasn/lasn006.html.

I'd be interested to hear back from you on progress.
Good luck
Yours Sincerely
Elizabeth O'Brien
