QUESTION: Info for setting assessment criteria for the new training package BCG03, 07 Jun 2004, Western Australia

I am in the process of assisting the Master Painters association skills centre in Perth with setting assessment criteria for the new training package BCG03 version 3.

I need as much info as I can regarding Occupational health and safety, lead removal procedures, disposal of said material, identification of material (I have info on lead test kits) companies currently manufacturing paint products with lead in them ,ie. Auto, Marine decorative, industrial and sign writing and anything else you may consider at this time relevant.

I know this is a big ask at this time however I am trying to collate as much info as possible and will then work through from there.

If you should also have any history on the manufacture of lead based paints specifically to the decorative market, that would also be appreciated as this is the main area I need the info on also anything relating to the health aspect.

Many thanks

Dear Simon,

Thanks for your phone message and email. I trust you are aware of AS 4361.1 Guide To Lead Paint Management Part 1: Industrial Applications and AS 4361.2 - 1998 Guide To Lead Paint Management - Part 2: Residential And Commercial Buildings, which are available from Standards Australia at www.standards.com.au for approximately $70 each. Also see the attached article about AS 4361.2.

I am going to forward a couple of our emailable info packs and I hope you find most of what you have asked for in those. I am hoping that this email (having been copied to Michael Hambrook) might incite an answer from the Australian Paint Manufacturers Federation about companies currently manufacturing paint products with lead in them ,ie. Auto, Marine decorative, industrial and sign writing paints. It would be great if Michael could respond to both of us on this issue.

Please let me know if you are in need of any info after this process and I wish you well with the development of this most important course.

Yours Sincerely
Elizabeth O'Brien
