QUESTION:
Which companies mine lead in Australia & what damage do they do to the environment & workers?
06 Jul 2004,
New South Wales Australia
Good afternoon, I am interested in gaining information on Australian listed lead producers as we are researching potential dangerous cases to come against some of these companies and also who is getting the lead out of the ground and the damage they are doing to the environment. Kindest regards, Dave |

ANSWER: 06 Jul 2004 Dear Dave, I get 21 results from a Google search on "base metal" on the Australian Stock Exchange website (see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=site%3Awww.asx.com.au +%22base+metal%22&btnG=Search) whereas searching on just the word lead is a waste of time. Is this list helpful? I am very interested to hear more about your work. Apparently one can write to WorkCover NSW for a list of all cases of insurance payouts for occupational blood lead level notifications (ie cases over 50 micrograms per decilitre), but I have never done so. Whether you could ask them to only give you the mining or smelting cases, is a possibility you'd have to discuss with WorkCover (ph sw 43215000, Info Centre 131050). What would you do with the information? Are you looking for Australia-wide information or just NSW? Or further afield? Looking forward to hearing from you. Yours Sincerely Elizabeth O'Brien |
