QUESTION:
Cobalt and lead in degradable polyethylene bags using the "TDPA" system.
20 Jul 2004,
New South Wales Australia
I stumbled upon your page when looking for something entirely different but I was interested as I have some lead n my system - source unknown. You may be interested to know that degradable polyethylene bags using the "TDPA" system use heavy metals to initiate the degradation including cobalt and lead. Tests done by BPI in the US show that the amount of each heavy metal used varies substantially. In three tests the level of lead detected was 627ppm, 926-941 ppm and ND. So far as I am aware no tests have been done in Australia. I have a copy of the test report if you wish to see it. |

ANSWER: 20 Jul 2004 Dear Neil, I'd be fascinated to see a copy of the results, including for cobalt. I had no idea lead had such a use. Please keep in touch. This could be something for Greenpeace to know about or anyone else who might pay for the testing. God knows, we have no money. Cheers Elizabeth O'Brien |
