ANSWER: 25 Oct 2004 Dear Cathy, you'd be best to hire a member of the Australian Dust Removalists Association and you can find member company details at www.adra.com.au although there's no qualitative test that can be used to detect lead in dust and testing for lead in dust is not necessary to know that you have lead dust in your ceiling. It's a given in an old inner city house. There is an excellent do-it-yourself home assessment kit available from us [see www.lead.org.au/clp/products/Do-It-Yourself-Lead-Safe-Test-Kits-20070526.html] and you can follow the kit's instructions to collect dust wipe samples of house dust or you can collect soil samples or paint samples and send them to Sydney Analytical Laboratories who will send the quantitative results to us. We will then provide you with a report and an interpretation sheet about what the results mean - you pay for all this when you buy the kit over the phone by Visa or Mastercard. Good luck with it all.
