ANSWER: 23 May 2003 Dear Gary, thanks for letting us know about your Story Board Exhibit on Lead Poisoning Prevention. If all Australian governments (including all the states) have only spent US$10,000 on lead poisoning prevention education funding (that's all we get to run the Lead Advisory Service Australia per annum), I really don't like your chances of getting any government funding for your Story Board Exhibit - no matter how good it is. Sorry to be delivering such a negative message. Because it is good, I would encourage you to write a proposal to each state Premier (as every state leaves the lead issue in the hands of one or another Minister - it could be Health, Housing, Environment, Industrial Relations, Police - it varies) so the best point of approach is via the Premier/Chief Minister/Prime Minister (see attached). You can tell them that the Lead Advisory Service Australia is happy to work with you to Australianise the messages. Good luck Elizabeth O'Brien |
