QUESTION: Lead core wick candles in Australia. 14 May
2003, Victoria Australia Hi, I wanted to know if all the candles selling in the market place now still contain lead ? Or only some ? Are they banned from Australia now ? Regards, Willie |

| ANSWER: 15 May 2003 Dear Willie, Lead core wick candles and lead core wicks (that is wicks containing more than 0.06% lead) were permanently banned in Australia last year but the Consumer Affairs division of the Treasury has recently reported to me that Klints stores have been found to be selling stacks of lead core wick candles so you should ask Consumer & Business Affairs Victoria, ph 1300558181 [www.consumer.vic.gov.au] whether they have ensured that all such candles are no longer for sale.
