QUESTION: How soon after a blood lead level of 10 µg/dL should we re-test our baby, 07 Feb 2003, Massachusetts USA

My 12 month old baby's blood was just tested for lead and the result was a 10. My doctor assures me that this is a low number but what do we do now? Once we have figured out where the lead is and we remove it, how soon after do we get him tested again? Also, should I be looking for signs and symptoms at this point in time? Thank you, Betsy
ANSWER: 07 Feb 2003

Dear Betsy,
It would be quicker for you to contact someone at the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program or Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the contact details are below, your baby will not exhibit any signs or symptoms at this time. They will advise you when to take another blood test. Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
