QUESTION: Methods to remove lead from body, 20 May 2003, Texas USA

What method(s) can be employed to remove lead which shows up in lab tests on an adult who probably ingested lead during childhood? I have heard of two methods:

Giving zinc by mouth, which reportedly can cause the lead to be excreted, and
chelation using EDTA. What do you think of these two methods,

and do you know of others? (Chelation under the supervision of a physician is very expensive. Zinc tablets are relatively inexpensive.)
