Kay Seltitzas
“The Need for Health Advocacy”
Kay Seltitzas participated with DHHS/EPA
investigations conducted in Rosebery in 2008/09 and is a researcher with the
Toxic Heavy Metals Taskforce Tasmania.
Kay will speak about the need for a
dedicated Health Advocate to work with residents through the medical assessment
and diagnostic process to ensure that they receive proper support.
John Rowe "Heavy
Metal Pollution and the Management of Health and Environmental Investigations
in Rosebery – Is your pet faking it?”
John Rowe is a former policeman with
the NSW Police and came to the Bar in NSW in 1970.
In his practice he appears in all states of the Commonwealth and has a
special interest in personal injuries, pollution and class actions.
He will speak on the factual
circumstances surrounding the exposure of Rosebery residents to heavy metal
pollution, the management of the threat by the Department of Health and Human
Services and legal obligations of persons who may be responsible or obligated
by statute.
Peter Long "Available Legal
Remedies: How to Access Them"
Peter Long is an accredited specialist
in personal injury law with Slater & Gordon and has a special interest in
chemical injury claims.
Peter will speak about the mechanics of
engaging a lawyer; the different Courts available to hear claims; the
procedures through those Courts; the various types of damages awards available
to injured people; and the likely timing of the finalisation of such claims.
