What is in your ceiling dust? A whole history of air pollution is
hanging over our heads, in the form of very fine dust accumulated in the ceiling cavity.
It only takes an event such as home renovations or a freak hailstorm such as the one
Sydney experienced last year to have this toxic cocktail contaminate the whole home and
its occupants
In this new issue, LEAD Action News vol 7 n 3, 1999 focuses on some
previously under-estimated contributors to air pollution: woodsmoke and
aircraft.
Also in this issue is an update on the Federal Governments
action plan on air toxics. Unfortunately, the funding of a service such as the Toxics
Information and Referral Service of Australia, which had been proposed by The LEAD Group,
is not part of the plan. (Indeed, the existence of the NSW funded Lead Advisory Service
after March 2000 is at this stage uncertain).
LEAD Action News is the newsletter of The LEAD Group Inc., a
non-profit community group working
to eliminate childhood and foetal lead poisoning by the year 2012 and to protect
the environment from lead.
